Essential Oils Essential oils are the high quality liquid obtained from plants through a variety of processes. The oil usually has the taste and smell of the original plant. Essential oils are called volatile because most of them are easily vaporized. The only theories for calling such oil “essential” are that the oils were believed essential to life and they were the “essence” of the plant. The use of essential oils as preservatives and scents is ancient. Essential oils have a long tradition of providing a variety of therapeutic benefits. Many of these traditionally known benefits, have been confirmed through modern scientific research. The use of essential oils in a cosmetic will have an antiseptic and antimicrobial action, as well as a healing and soothing effect on the skin. Essential oils help the skin and hair detoxify, drain, heal and regenerate. Essential Oils are readily absorbed through the skin, nasal passages and hair follicles and carried to all parts of the body, having an effect, which can last from a few hours to a few days.
